Cab-O-Sil: The Ultimate Solution for Marine Coatings

At Marine Coat One, we are dedicated to providing exceptional products that offer superior performance and quality. One of our standout offerings is Cab-O-Sil, a game-changing product in the marine coating industry.

What is Cab-O-Sil?

Cab-O-Sil, also known as Cabosil, is a form of fumed silica. This high-performance product is the result of an intricate process, where silicon tetrachloride reacts with water vapor, and in a blaze of high-temperature flame, forms a fine, white, fluffy powder – fumed silica. The applications of this product are vast, but at Marine Coat One, we utilize its properties to the fullest in our marine coatings.

Buy Cabosil Fumed Silicas for Marine Coatings

Why choose Cabosil fumed silica for your marine coatings? The answer lies in the exceptional properties it brings to the table. With its ability to serve as a thickening and viscosity control agent, Cab-O-Sil provides excellent suspension and anti-sagging properties. It is an ideal product for anyone looking to buy a product that can enhance their marine coatings and provide superior results.

Improve Color & Protect Coatings with Cabosil

One of the greatest advantages of using Cabosil is its ability to enhance color and protect your coatings. The Cabosil powder gets seamlessly integrated into the coatings, thereby improving color strength and brightness. Furthermore, it aids in increasing the coating’s durability, offering protection against harsh marine conditions. Thus, with Cab-O-Sil coatings, you not only get an aesthetically pleasing result but also a long-lasting one.

Performance Benefits of Fumed Silica

When you buy Cabosil, you’re investing in a product that’s packed with performance benefits. Fumed silica, the main component of Cabosil, is revered for its ability to improve the performance of paints and coatings. It does this by controlling and adjusting the viscosity of the coatings, preventing settling of pigments, and improving the flow and leveling characteristics. It also aids in reducing the penetration of water and other corrosive substances, thus increasing the lifespan of the coating.

Cab-O-Sil Fumed Silicas for Hydrophobic & Hydrophilic Surfaces

Another unique feature of Cabosil fumed silicas is their adaptability. Whether you’re dealing with hydrophobic or hydrophilic surfaces, Cabosil has you covered. The hydrophilic fumed silica is known for its ability to provide excellent thickening, thixotropy, and reinforcement in liquid systems, while the hydrophobic fumed silica is perfect for systems that require water resistance, such as marine coatings. The versatility of Cabosil makes it a valuable addition to any marine coating process.

Where to Buy Cabosil Fumed Silicas?

Now that you know the benefits of Cabosil, the next step is to procure it. At Marine Coat One, we pride ourselves on our quality offerings. You can buy Cabosil directly from us, ensuring you’re getting a product that’s been thoroughly tested and approved for marine use. For our Amazon Prime customers, we offer the convenience of our “Buy with Prime” service, ensuring a seamless shopping experience.

Also, remember to check out our variety of Gel Coats and Gel Coat & Fiberglass Repair Kits that can complement your Cabosil purchase.

The Marine Coat One wax surfacing agent promotes a better surface cure for resins and gel coats. It is used for making a gel coat tack-free. Add styrene wax to non-waxed polyester resin and gel coat to prevent the tackiness associated with thin sections of polyesters.

This wax surfacing agent is a 5% paraffin dissolved in styrene. When adding paraffin to the resin, the wax will rise to the surface and protect the curing resin from the air’s inhibiting action. Once the resin is allowed to cure fully, you must sand off the wax before any additional applications. Any paraffin on the surface will prevent the adhesion of further coats.

The required amount of wax is 1 ounce per quart of gel coat or 4 ounces per gallon.

For post-application gel coat work, Hi-Gloss Additive is the proven leader. This additive converts the gel coat to air-cure chemistry, which leads to a smooth, porcelain-hard surface. This product is best used in applications such as complete gel coat resurfacing, plug and pattern manufacturing, and gel coat repair. Blend with the original gel coat to match the desired color. Make gel coat repair come out perfectly every time!

To create a glossy, smooth finished surface, Clear High Gloss Additive can be blended with numerous gel coats. To reduce viscosity and porosity, Mix at a 1:1 ratio with a regular gel coat. This will improve the gloss level, and permit a complete open-air cure. It can also be blended at 15% with tooling gel coats to upgrade mold surfaces, improve gloss retention, increase impact resistance, and reduce heat distortion.

The reduction in viscosity allows gel coats to be sprayed controllably through the siphon and HVLP equipment, reducing sanding and polishing time. When used for repairs, this product will result in a low porosity surface.

When using gel coats or polyester and vinyl ester resins, styrene is the recommended thinner. All polyester and vinyl ester resins contain styrene monomer. Although it’s usually not necessary, Thinning resins and gel coats can be performed for applications where a lower viscosity is desired (spraying or infusing). Marine Coat One recommends adding styrene at no more than 5% to maintain the resin or gel coat’s physical properties.
